Ruben Amorim has a difficult task on his hands as he aims to bring back the glory days at Manchester United and there are plenty of lessons he can learn from the club's former boss Sir Alex Ferguson. Ferguson enjoyed great success during his 27 years in charge of United, winning 13 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, five FA Cups and four League Cups. During his career, Ferguson worked with a number of superstar players including Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Eric Cantona.

However, Ferguson also relied on footballers he described as "an eight out of 10" and surprisingly revealed back in 2013 that one of these players was the "one certainty" to make his all-time United XI. "Honestly, I would say Denis Irwin would be the one certainty to get in the team," Ferguson said at an event in Glasgow. "I called him an eight out of 10. At Highbury in one game, he had a bad pass back in the last minute and [Dennis] Bergkamp came in and scored.

"After the game the press said: 'You must be disappointed in that pass back.' I said: 'Well, one mistake in 10 years isn't bad.' He was an unbelievable player.". And Amorim could certainly do with more reliable "eight out of 10" players like Irwin in his squad, with United currently languishing 14th in the Premier League having won just two of his seven league games in charge so far.

The Portuguese has previously admitted he wants players who "run like mad dogs " if they are to start challenging for the title again. Speaking after United's 2-0 defeat to Arsenal, he explained: "It's impossible to win the Premier League without a team like that.
