The speed limit is set to increase by 50 per cent on hundreds of UK roads. Roads in Wales will revert from 20mph back to 30mph in a move that could cost the taxpayer millions. The two authorities that will give an estimate of the cost are Wrexham and Swansea, which have asked the Welsh Government for £368,00 and 470,000, respectively.
The move will be replicated across all of Wales' 22 local authorities meaning it could cost several million. Welsh Labour official Ken Skates carried out a review of Wales' controversial 20mph speed limit. Skates said mistakes had been made and some roads had been slowed to 20mph when they should be 30mph and called for the return to the original speed. But when asked how much the reversal would cost he did not give an exact figure but estimated it would be more than £5million.
Some authorities have consulted with residents for a Traffic Regulation Order, the legal document needed to change a road's speed, according to Mirror affiliate Wales Online. Here is a list of all the roads that will have their speed limit changed or be reviewed.
The authority is reviewing the following roads:. A spokesperson said more than 100 roads in Bridgend County Borough would retain their 30mph speed limit. The region has received requests to review some 120 different sections of roads and that hald were due to not meeting the Welsh Government criteria.
