Storm Herminia has arrived in the UK hot on the heels of Éowyn, spawning a host of new Met Office weather warnings that will impact people for several hours on end this week. The latest named storm made landfall in the southern half of the country this morning, where it is currently pounding England and Wales with heavy rain and wind. Forecasters have issued two yellow alerts in response, telling millions of Brits they could be battered by near gale-force gusts and soaked in inches worth of rain.
The dramatic weather is set to last for two days this week, with forecasters warning the conditions could also spark power cuts in the worst-hit areas. The alerts will last from 6am today to the same time tomorrow, with the hour-by-hour breakdown looking particularly grim for several major cities.
In London, where the city's nearly nine million residents are under a warning for wind, the forecast shows gusts building to strengths of up to 40mph, which were heard whistling through the streets early this morning. The hour-by-hour forecast shows that, while the wind will die down slightly today, it will strengthen again overnight.
The Met Office breakdown for London is as follows:. 8am: Sunny spells, 7C, 42mph winds. 9am: Sunny spells and showers, 7C, 40mph winds. 10am: Sunny and rainy spells, 7C, 40mph winds. 11am: Sunny and rainy spells, 7C, 42mph winds. 12pm: Sunny and rainy spells, 8C, 44mph winds.
