Supermarket unveils new chocolate range that has fans saying they’ve ‘outdone themselves’

It’s only February, and Easter is still two and a half months away, but that hasn’t stopped supermarkets from unveiling their seasonal products a tad early. M&S went viral with the pistachio rolled eggs that some hailed the ‘product of the year’ just a few days into 2025, and the shelves in Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Asda are filled with Cadbury, Nestlé and Terry’s Chocolate Orange Easter products.
But it seems an unexpected supermarket might have just won the race, after revealing their new Easter range for 2025 – and the products aren’t even out yet. Waitrose shoppers have been going wild after the retailer shared a sneak peek of its Spring goodies, which included a croissant made entirely out of chocolate, flat Easter eggs, and a new and improved version of the UK’s most expensive supermarket Easter egg – the Cracking Pistachio.
The No.1 Chocolate Croissant will be launching at Waitrose on February 10 and will set you back £15. Speaking about the product, Sarah Breadmore, Waitrose’s confectionery product developer, said: ‘Croissants are all the craze with sales of croissants and sweet, indulgent treats soaring at Waitrose. With the hybrid croissant trend not going anywhere, we’ve seen a rise in everything being about the giant and oversized, this is driven by social media and being able to share food experiences together.
‘On that exciting note, welcome our No.1 Chocolate Croissant – a perfectly shaped croissant made of rich blonde chocolate with feuilletine and biscuit inclusions inside the shell, drizzled with milk chocolate and sprinkled with crunchy chocolate crumbs. Perfect for sharing with all the food lovers.’. Next up are the flat easter eggs, which come in three different flavours. First there’s Blonde Chocolate and Biscuit, which as the name suggests is made with blonde chocolate and crunchy biscuit crumbs, as well as a scattering of caramelised biscuit and fleur de sel on top.
Then there’s Milk Chocolate with crunchy feuilletine and fleur de sel and a generous scattering of chocolate flakes shimmered with gold, and finally there’s Dark Chocolate & Nut made from dark chocolate flecked with crunchy hazelnut praline, and topped with a generous scattering of flaked almonds, caramelised hazelnut and pecan pieces. All three flat eggs have a hollow half mini egg on top and cost £12 each. They’ll be available to buy from February 3.
Pistachio and chocolate is still proving to be a winning combination in 2025, so the team at Waitrose has updated the Cracking Pistacho (shaped like a pistachio nut being cracked out of its shell), and it now has even more pistachio inside the blonde chocolate outer layer. This also returns on February 3, but it’s had a hell of a price hike, rising from £14 last year to £17 now. And if these new chocolate products weren’t enough, the supermarket is also launching two new versions of Mini Eggs (No.1 Blue Eggs and No1. Duo Eggs), which are said to conceal ‘sweet surprises inside’, and the adorable Sunny Side Sam range is back, which features chocolate shaped like a cute little fried egg character. There’s Sam on Toast, Sunny Side Sam Cube Cakes, Chocolate Lollies and even bite-sized Caramel Egg Cups.
For those who want to tuck into something that isn’t chocolate, the supermarket is going to be selling a twist on a festive classic as well. Waitrose has shared a look at its new Apple & Cinnamon Hot Cross Bunettone. This is a gently spiced Italian cake made with sultanas and a sweet apple filling that comes with a stencil to dust with cinnamon icing sugar before you serve. Unsurprisingly, this new range has caused a real stir on social media, with fans desperate to get their hands on the new chocolate – especially the croissant.
On Instagram @thiscolourfulnest proclaimed: ‘I’m getting that croissant’, as @another_snack_reviewer said: ‘I NEED the croissant and flat eggs!’. Similarly, @sophiethenutritionist commented: ‘omg the CROISSANT.’ While @rebeccaloves_ wrote: ‘All look incredible.’. For @binipw it was the pistachio egg that she was most excited by, saying: ‘Can confirm from last year that pistachio egg is EVERYTHING!!’.
‘This is amazing, what a fantastic idea, you have a great team there whoever came up with this needs an award,’ gushed @hazelprinto, as @cocoacanopy.hotchoc told the Waitrose team: ‘You’ve outdone yourselves!!!’. Others thought the range looked ‘perfect’, ‘amazing’ and ‘fantastic’ while others were at a loss for words, simply writing ‘wow’. This comes after Waitrose recently announced the return of a very exciting in-store perk for customers.
The bougie supermarket is set to allow shoppers to qualify for a free coffee without buying anything. Waitrose first introduced its free hot drink offer in 2014 – and customers quickly caught onto the fact that you didn’t necessarily need to buy anything inside the store to qualify. But in 2017, all hell broke lose when it changed its terms to require members to buy at least something before getting their caffeine fix.
