‘The country’s largest offshore airport is rising slowly from the sea level like the sunrise in the east,’ the airport said in a statement on the Chinese social media platform WeChat.

Dalian Zhoushuizi Airport, the city’s international airport that has been operating for nearly a century, has already reached its maximum capacity of 70 million.

The Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport will span a 20-square-kilometre island and feature four runways, along with a 969,000sqft passenger terminal.

Poised to be one of the country’s major travel hubs, it’s currently being built on reclaimed land in Jinzhou Bay, located to the north of Dalian city in Liaoning Province, northeastern China.
