Everyone loves a bargain, especially in January when the countdown till payday seems to go on forever. So finding a cheap way to eat is a bonus in the chill of the New Year. Iceland has a series of £1 products and asked me if I could take on the seven meals for £7 challenge, and I have to say, I was impressed. Not only were some of these meals quick and convenient, some of them tasted great and all for £1.

With the variety of meals for £1, you can taste the world over one week and be satisfied at lunch or a way dinner at home. So what is on offer and what should you avoid?. I tried them all, so here is a rundown from my least favourite to the best. Now the only reason this is last is because I don't think it is a "meal". This feels like part of a meal that needs to go with veg and some gravy.

Which is exactly what I did on a Monday evening with the left over veg from our Sunday roast. And it was really good. I split this £1 portion with my husband for our evening meal and the Yorkshire pudding is exactly what you want, nice crispness but also soft and fluffy on the inside parts. The sausages were decent too, just your standard cheap sausage, which is not an insult.

I guess you could argue because my meal used left over veg it was only 50p (halved with my husband), but even if you don't see it like that, it was a very cheap meal. I love a bolognese, but not this one. You get a decent portion and I think it would fill you up for £1, but I did not like the taste at all. It has a harsh aftertaste which is very artificial.
