Tom Chambers was so keen to rejoin the cast of BBC's Father Brown that he 'begged' producers for a comeback. The heartthrob, at age 45, has finally made his way back to the beloved Cotswolds-based series in its tenth season, which prides itself as the BBC's second-longest-running daytime TV show, not counting soaps.

The latest season of Father Brown began airing on January 6, introducing a 'refreshed' lineup. Tom originally joined the detective drama in 2014, playing Inspector Sullivan for two seasons before departing. However, he did make occasional guest appearances, showing up now and then for a single episode.

After a period dabbling in other projects, including Into the Night and even scooping up the Strictly Come Dancing glitterball trophy, Tom has been allowed his Father Brown encore after imploring the honchos at the Beeba titbit he shared with The Sun, saying: "I have been begging to come back ever since I left.".

"I had to leave in 2014 because I had another project that I had to be on full time. So I was stuck between a rock and a hard place, and I couldn't come back. "I did come back for one episode in 2018, and one in 2019. And then I was asked to come back full time.

"It's hard to express my feeling about returning, but what I said to Mark in a text was, 'To say I'm happy to be coming back is an understatement!'". Chuffed at his full-time return, Tom likened his brief revisits to the show as a tantalising teaser: "Because when you come back for one episode, you get a little taste," he described.
