Tottenham crisis hits humiliating new low as Leicester pile pressure on Ange Postecoglou

After Burns night came the third degree - and after their worst defeat of the season, the air was thick with mutiny at Tottenham. As Spurs’ dismal run stretched to just five points from a possible 33, Ange Postecoglou was running short of shelter from the storm. Every time Big Ange manages to cling to a passing piece of driftwood in the cups or in Europe, another wave of doom threatens to engulf him in the Premier League.
And as Leicester ended a horrid run of seven consecutive defeats to climb out of the drop zone above Wolves, Tottenham fans tuned their anger squarely on chairman Daniel Levy. To the soundtrack of “We want Levy out” chants, they unfurled a banner which read like a ransom note.
It read simply: “24 years, 16 managers, 1 trophy - Time for change.” And if this impoverished defeat does not ring any alarm bells with Levy, there is nobody home in the belfry. Don’t fall for that old chestnut about Tottenham being too good to go down. Surely they won’t be relegated… will they? But if Spurs can manage to lose at home to Ipswich and Leicester, they may be too blithe to stay up, and now they have been mugged by the top flight’s oldest front line.
Jamie Vardy, Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Jordan Ayew may have 104 years on the clock between them, but they worked their socks off. Two goals in five minutes of ruinous complacency, right after half-time, gave Foxes boss Ruud van Nistelrooy relief from the prospect of equalling a club record eighth consecutive league defeat.
