Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock are teaming up for the sequel of romantic fantasy film Practical Magic which released back in 1998. According to Deadline, the pair will be returning as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, 26 years after initially playing the characters.
Oscar-winning director Susanne Bier is in negotiations with Warner Bros. Pictures to helm the film and she has a great relationship already with the two leading stars. Susanne worked with Sandra for Netflix's Bird Box, which became the most-watched film on the streaming platform within 28 days of release.
She's also worked with Nicole on two occasions, the first being HBO's series The Undoing and the recent Netflix series The Perfect Couple which released in September last year. Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the first film is returning to write the screenplay while Sandra and Nicole are also stepping in to co-produce the project alongside Denise Di Novi.
The original film was based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Alice Hoffman and was directed by Griffin Dunne. It is the only occasion the two Hollywood stalwarts have worked together and so the sequel will be a treat for their fans. The story followed two sisters who were raised by their eccentric aunts in a small town and were faced with prejudice from those around them. To make matters worse, a curse threatens to prevent the two women from finding ever-lasting love.
