The movie – which is directed by Tyler Perry and stars Kerry Washington – tells the story of unsung heroes of World War II who were given a difficult mission, which resulted in them re-writing history. The compelling story has been described by critics as ‘inspirational’ with a ‘stellar cast’, while viewers have shared how it left them ’emotional’.
The new hit is based on a heroic, monumental moment in history where Major Charity Adams (Kerry) led the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, which consisted of predominantly American Black women. The ladies quickly developed heroine status when 855 of them joined forces to defy sexism and segregation by delivering 17million letters across the world to help boost the morale of soldiers.
The US commanders gave The Six Triple Eights 6 months to complete their task, but with their strength and determination they were able to post every single letter in only ninety days. The phenomenally talented cast also includes TV chat-show host legend Oprah Winfrey, who plays the role of renowned civil rights activist Mary McLeod Bethune.
