Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) declared a major incident early this morning as it received more than 200 panicking phone calls from the public.
Those experiencing flooding are urged to keep all people and animals safe, move important documents to an upper floor, turn off all electricity, gas and water and check on vulnerable neighbours.
So far today, 17 members of the public have been rescued by LFRS crews amid reports of heavy rain across the region.
So far, firefighters have rescued people from their flooded homes, as well as cars stranded in water.
