Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Van Dijk said: "The inevitable is coming but I think the referee had a big part in the game today, in terms of certain challenges given as fouls and others weren't.

Virgil van Dijk was not happy with referee Michael Oliver during the dramatic Merseyside derby and accused the official of losing "control" of the game.
"We all saw how they celebrated a goal, they have all the right to, but I think Doucoure in the end wanted to provoke our fans from what I saw and Curtis didn't think that was the right thing to do.
