The January transfer window is into its final few days as clubs from the Premier League to Saudi Arabia scramble to get their squads together before it closes. There looks set to be some drama to come in the Premier League before the window slams shut, with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Tottenham all looking to do significant deals. The Red Devils have been linked with offloading a string of their first team stars, with Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund all linked with exits.
Meanwhile, Arsenal launched an audacious bid for Aston Villa and England striker Ollie Watkins, although the Villains are not looking to sell having agreed a deal to move Jhon Duran to Al Nassr. Manchester City have been very active so far this month, signing Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Omar Marmoush, while also loaning Kyle Walker out to AC Milan. Teams fighting relegation are also working hard in the transfer market, including Ipswich who have brought in Jaden Philogene from Aston Villa and two loan signing in Ben Godfrey from Atalanta and Julio Enciso from Brighton.
Things can change very quickly over the final few days and hours of a transfer window so be sure to keep an eye on Metro for all the latest updates. The winter transfer window opened on 1 January 2025 and will close at 11pm UK time on Monday 3 February. It may seem unusual for the January transfer window to close in February, but it is partly to try and stay in line with other leagues domestically and across Europe.
The EFL winter transfer window also closes at 11pm on 3 February. European leagues have mostly lined up to close on 3 February, although the times the transfer windows shut do vary. La Liga: 3 February 11pm UK time. Serie A: 3 February 7pm UK time. Bundesliga: 3 February 5pm UK time. Ligue 1: 3 February 10pm UK time. The Saudi Pro League’s transfer window closes earlier, on January 31, while the transfer window in Turkey remains open until February 11.
Deals can still be completed between leagues as long as the signing club’s transfer window is open. Clubs can sign free agents at any time, but these signings will need to be registered to play and so may not be able to until next season. The summer transfer window is due to open on 12 June.
