Emmerdale fans will be surprised to see a very familiar - but unlikely face - in the HOP tonight. Tonight, a special scene will air in the HOP, which will see Laurel serve a coffee to a very special guest. Emmerdale has been at the forefront of ITV soaps, alongside its sister show Coronation Street, for years - but this visitor tonight will surprise you.
Back in May 2024, Sir Lindsay Hoyle - also known as the Speaker of the House of Commons - filmed a very special cameo in the ITV soap to draw attention to the soaps are how important they are for Brits. Speaking at the time, Sir Lindsay said: "Incredibly, Emmerdale has been on our screens for more than half a century - shining a light on the lived experience of others; entertaining viewers with its hard-hitting storylines, while also making a major economic contribution to the North. It has been an honour to help the cast celebrate the 10,000th episode of this enduring Yorkshire-based soap, with a visit to the Woolpack. As a Lancastrian, I am hugely impressed by the talent and warmth of our friends on ‘the other side’ of the Pennines.".
Now, the special scenes have aired - with Sir Lindsay seen wearing the wellington boots he was given when he met some of the cast, before heading over to see the Emmerdale village set. They were due to air back in May but a general election was called and thus the cameo had to be postponed until after the election. Tonight, Sir Lindsay will seen heading into the Hide Bar & Bistro in a tweed jacket and wellies as a rambler, and compliment Laurel Thomas (played by Charlotte Bellamy) on her Yorkshire tea.
