Wolves striker Matheus Cunha has been banned for two matches and fined £80,000 by the FA after an altercation with a Ipswich staff member earlier this month. The Brazilian shoved his hand in the face of a security official as tempers flared after the final whistle of Wolves' dramatic defeat to the Tractor Boys.

Cunha, who has stared for the Midlands club despite their struggles, had been allowed to feature in matches against Leicester, Manchester United and Tottenham as his case was reviewed. But the 25-year-old will now miss Wolves' Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest on Monday as well as their FA Cup third round trip to Bristol City.

New Wolves manager Vitor Pereira may be counting his blessings over the ruling, given that the forward was likely to miss some time anyway after coming off at half-time in the weekend draw with Spurs. Speaking before their clash in north London Pereira, who has enjoyed an unbeaten start since replacing Gary O'Neil at Molineux, indicated that the club are expecting Cunha to receive a suspension.

Matheus Cunha will miss Wolves' next two domestic matches after being found guilty of misconduct by the FA. The 25-year-old pawed at the face of an Ipswich security guard during chaotic scenes after the final whistle of Wolves' defeat to the Tractor Boys.

‘We are trying to prepare other players because when it happens we must be ready with other players,’ the Wolves boss said. ‘They are working, they are doing good work, they are trying to understand the idea, the intention of what we want, with and without the ball, waiting for an opportunity.’.
