Wolves forward Matheus Cunha is still facing a potential Premier League ban after his altercation with a member of Ipswich Town’s security staff earlier this month. The 25-year-old was charged with misconduct by the Football Association last week over his part in the bust-up after Wolves’ 2-1 defeat at home to Ipswich on December 14.

The incident occurred shortly after the full-time whistle as Cunha was seen pushing the Ipswich Town staff member in the face, which knocked off his glasses. Despite being charged, Cunha was still eligible to play in Wolves’ 3-0 win away to Leicester City on December 22, as well as in their 2-0 win at home to Manchester United on Boxing Day.

On Friday, a post circulated on X which appeared to be a screengrab of an FA statement that claimed Cunha had been banned for five games. However, that post was fake and the outcome of Cunha’s charge is yet to be confirmed by the FA. Speaking ahead of his side’s next Premier League match away to Tottenham on Sunday, Wolves head coach Vitor Pereira indicated that the club are expecting Cunha to receive a suspension.

Asked if he is making preparations in the event of Cunha’s absence, Pereira said: ‘We are trying to prepare other players because when it happens we must be ready with other players. ‘They are working, they are doing good work, they are trying to understand the idea, the intention of what we want, with and without the ball, waiting for an opportunity.’.
