A woman watching TikTok behind the wheel as she was driving ploughed into and killed a retired granddad. Mariska Nunn, 20, was said to have had her phone in her lap, watching a TikTok video, as she returned home from her boyfriend's house in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota on September 3. Retired grandfather, 81-year-old Dean Chadbourne, has been crossing the road when Nunn ploughed into him. He was rushed to hospital, but couldn't be saved, and died less than an hour after he was hit. By looking at phone records, police found she had been using the app for six minutes before the fatal crash. She called the emergency services less than a minute after watching the last video. She was charged with felony criminal vehicular homicide last month, and has now been released from police custody.

Mr Chadbourne was born and lived his whole life in Minnesota, working as a middle school teacher and owning a business, according to his obituary. His loved ones wrote: "Dean was a kind-hearted, ‘mostly’ patient man. "He would do anything for anyone who needed assistance. He would never hesitate to go out of his way for others. Anyone who knew him had only good things to say about him. Dean was a well-known and respected man around the area.

"I’m sure anyone you ask about him has at least one good story to tell. Dean enjoyed golfing, boating, snowmobiling, four wheeling, and having good laughs with friends. Perhaps his favourite thing was spending time with his grandson Kayden. "He was his pride and joy. He attended every sporting and other events he could. Some would say he loved working to much, as he never slowed down. He still plowed snow and sold sealer at the age of 81.
