A mother has described how ‘all hell let loose’ after a woman was killed and a toddler was found wounded at a block of flats in Surrey. Emergency services were called to a property in Woodthorpe Road in Ashford, yesterday lunchtime after they received a call from a member of the public concerning the safety of the people inside.
Officers later found a woman, aged in her 20s, and a two-year-old girl seriously injured. The woman was declared dead at the scene and the toddler has been taken to hospital. Her condition is not yet known. Witnesses said the incident happened in the third floor of the block of flats.
One neighbour, called Jessica, 30, told Metro: ‘Paramedics took a toddler or baby out in their arms covered in a blanket. ‘Police arrrested a bloke who was covered in blood. He showed no emotion he was calm. It was so weird. The police put him in the van.
‘There were armed police, it was crazy. The air ambulance landed nearby.’. Hailey, 33, said: ‘It was sick. How can this have happened?’. Another witness, a mum of four, told Metro: ‘All hell let loose there were cops everywhere. The woman and child lived there. It’s so sad, we are really in shock.’.
Forensics officers are at the scene. A man in his 30s, who was known to the two victims, was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. Detectives said there is not believed to be any wider risk to the community. DCI Kimball Edey said: ‘This investigation is in its early stages and a team of specialist officers are working around the clock to gather as much information as possible.
