Summary at a Glance

Women are the big losers in UK's financial wealth divide - but here's how to tackle it Women are poorer than men.

Once they start on lower incomes, women face further financial hits with dips in earnings from career breaks, whether that is bringing up children and/or looking after ageing parents.

That may well come true as women earn less, take more career breaks, or work part-time, due to taking on the lion’s share of caring responsibilities.

According to investment firm AJ Bell, when you look at total assets including cash savings, pensions, investments and other assets (excluding property), the average woman has £49,000.

The pay gap between men and women is 13.1% for all workers, and 7% for full-time workers, the Office for National Statistics says.
