‘President Clinton was discharged earlier today after being treated for the flu,’ wrote his deputy chief of staff Angel Ureña on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday morning. ‘He and his family are deeply grateful for the exceptional care provided by the team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and are touched by the kind messages and well wishes he received.

‘He sends his warmest wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season to all.’. Ureña in a post on Monday evening had stated that Clinton was admitted to the hospital ‘for testing and observation’ for his fever and that he was ‘in good spirits’.

The deputy chief of staff also told CNN that the former president hoped to be discharged before Christmas. Clinton has faced several health scares since leaving the White House after serving two terms from January 1993 to January 2001. The Democratic president underwent quadruple bypass heart surgery in 2004 and had two stents inserted to open an artery in 2010.

Three years ago, he was hospitalized for a urinary tract infection that spread into his bloodstream. Clinton has also had surgery to remove a pre-cancerous lesion on his back and dealt with allergies, blood pressure and cholesterol issues. He switched to a mostly vegan diet, which helped him lose some weight.
