Chelsea winger Jadon Sancho took a clear dig at Manchester United with a message to former team-mate Marcus Rashford following his debut for Aston Villa. The 27-year-old made his first appearance for Villa since joining the club on loan from Manchester United on the penultimate day of the winter transfer window when he emerged from the bench during Sunday’s 2-1 FA Cup win against Tottenham. Rashford had gone over two months without playing competitively, having been ostracised by United head coach Ruben Amorim for his performances in training.

Sancho, who is on loan at Chelsea from United, suffered a similar feat at Old Trafford after a falling out with Erik ten Hag following the Dutchman’s remarks about the winger’s lack of application. The former Manchester City winger was sent on loan to Dortmund last season after refusing to apologise to Ten Hag, who he accused of making him a ‘scapegoat’ for the side’s poor results. And, in a clear indication that Sancho hasn’t forgotten his troubles at the Theatre of Dreams, the winger left a telling comment on Rashford’s social media post following his debut at Villa Park.

Sancho commented: ‘Freedom’ with the ‘prayer’ and ‘raised hands’ emojis. The comment is unlikely to go down well with United fans, who were already disappointed with Sancho’s performances following a £72m move to the club in 2021. Sancho scored 12 goals in 87 appearances for the club. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
