A technical glitch hit the inauguration coverage as Carrie Underwood prepared to sing in front of the new president. The Country star was set to sing in front of Donald Trump as the sound went off at the BBC coverage of the stateside event and there was a glitch at the event. Followers on social media praised her a cappella version of America the Beautiful due to the glitch.
The American Idol star took take to the stage and perform the rousing tune at the US Capitol. However, a recording failed to play, leaving an awkward pause. Despite the issue, Carrie didn't let it affect her and she powerfully sang the song without the planned backing track.
One user on Twitter/X wrote: "Carrie Underwood sang American the Beautiful perfectly a cappella when there was a technical glitch at the inauguration, after a taped backing orchestra failed. She is a voice of a generation. Bravo.". Another added: "Carrie Underwood was amazing! She did not let the AV glitch bother her and just took charge…..RESPECT!," and a third said: "Carrie Underwood owned the moment after the glitch in the music for America the Beautiful by singing a cappella. It took an embarrassing moment and made it magnificent as Republicans and Democrats helped sing with her...".
Carrie had previously kept her political views private, having confessed to "try to stay far out of politics if possible". Her fans have since hit out at her backing of Trump. Some fans claimed her career is "over." Carrie has built a successful music career following her American Idol. She had previously poked fun at Trump, most notably at the 2017 Country Music Awards. During the show, she and Brad Paisley made light of the former Apprentice star.
