Singer-songwriter Carrie Underwood has been described as a "star" following her performance at the inauguration of President Donald Trump. Carrie, 41 - who rose to fame when she won American Idol in 2005 - performed at the US Capitol on Monday following an inaugural address by President Trump, 78, who has now been sworn in as the 47th President of United States. She performed America the Beautiful and was introduced with the Armed Forces Chorus for her segment in the ceremony.

Whilst stood alongside various politicians, she performed the song acapella after an apparent technical issue with the background music. And whilst Carrie's participation at the inauguration this week has divided opinion, there was an outpouring of praise for her over the performance itself.

One person wrote on X: "YOU ARE A STAR. Grace under pressure. You handled that like a boss." Another reacted to the performance: "Carrie Underwood was the star [of] the inauguration!" A third viewer said: "[Carrie] is a super star.". Someone wrote: "[She's] the star of this one. Great voice and professionalism." One person commented: "This is what a professional looks like. With grace, when the military band audio failed, she sang her song with the audience.".

"Kudos to [her]. When the audio for the band failed, she offered an acapella version of America that was beautiful and inspired. Wonderful," another wrote. Someone reacted: "Imagine being so talented that when technology fails, you just go, 'Fine, I'll do it live!' and crush it a cappella in front of thousands.".
