Moss thrives in damp and poorly drained spots, often cropping up in the shadier parts of gardens. While it's not harmful, it can turn walkways into slip hazards and is an eyesore, making removal a good idea, particularly during winter when it might freeze. Online forums are buzzing with methods to banish patio and driveway moss.

On the gardens Cleaning Tips Facebook page, Manda Jayne sought advice: "Any advice would be greatly received." She also asked for suggestions on clearing green moss and gunk from her garden paving, saying: "Please bear in mind that we do have a small dog who likes to explore, so no harsh chemicals. Also, we don't own a pressure washer or know anyone with one. Thank you.".

The group responded with a flurry of suggestions, with many endorsing white vinegar. Sue Wilding advised: "Dilute white vinegar with water, about one part vinegar and 10 parts water. Let it sit on the patio for a while, and it should come away easily with a brush, no scrubbing needed, it's incredible.",.

Pat Baker echoed this, saying the cheap kitchen staple "kills moss instantly" on hard surfaces but warned against letting it contact plants due to its acetic acid. White vinegar is available for as little as 30p at stores like Tesco, reports the Express.

The substance must be diluted before application due to its potent acidic nature, which can lead to potential damage on surfaces like patios if applied directly. Community members chimed in with their own tips, including using boiling water while keeping pets at a safe distance.
