Thousands of Community Fibre users are reporting problems with their internet service. The issues began at just before noon on Monday, according to Down Detector. Community Fibre has acknowledged the “disruption to its service.” Writing on its network status page, the company said: “Our engineers are aware of this issue and working on a solution as their top priority. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience.“.
However, the company hasn’t said what’s behind the outage of if there’s a DIY fix. At the time of writing, there have been more than 15,000 reports of issues with Community Fibre, according to Down Detector. Community Fibre users have taken to social media to complain of the technical issues. They have also chastised the company for a lack of updates on the problem, with some also claiming they can’t get through to customer support.
“I can’t use the internet and can’t get through to either their sales or their customer service number!,” said a user on X (formerly Twitter). “Would be useful @CommunityFibre letting your customers know if there is a major outage. Reset router three times in last half hour thinking it is me. One look on X and it turns out it's the same for everyone. Needs sorting (as does their communications, their phone is down too),” said another user on X.
Community Fibre is a London-based internet service provider that builds, owns, and operates its own dedicated full-fibre optic network, delivering high-speed broadband directly to homes (known as fibre-to the-premises). Unlike ADSL broadband connections which use standard copper wires to send data, fibre optic broadband works by sending laser light along plastic or glass cables – literally at the speed of light. It means data can be sent and received at vastly improved speeds.
