Viewers of The Chase were left bemused after noticing a glaring mistake early in Friday's (February 14) episode. On yesterday's show, host Bradley Walsh introduced four fresh faces to the ITV quiz favourite. The 64-year-old presenter greeted Gareth, Anthony, Jeanette, and Louise, who were all eager to test their trivia skills. They faced off against Mark 'The Beast' Labbett, who was on top form to challenge the savvy contestants.
Kicking things off, Gareth bagged a cool £4,000 in his cash builder, but his luck ran out when the Chaser swiftly caught him. Antony, a maths student, impressed the ex-Corrie actor next with a whopping £6,000 haul in his round. Determined not to be ousted like his predecessor, he took a cautious approach, choosing the lower offer of £1,000, which paid off as he advanced to the final chase. Inspired by Antony's strategy, Jeanette, despite earning £2,000, also decided to take the lower offer.
When Bradley probed her decision, she justified it by saying: "Well, I always said I would never go low, but he did!" pointing at Antony, who had just secured his spot in the final showdown, reports the Express. Viewers took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their frustration with the player's decision to accept the low offer. One fan ranted: "Why bother going on the chase if you're takin the low offer. #TheChase.".
Another fan concurred: "Oh please, it's a game about pressure, but also about b***y money. Going low made no sense, especially when he had a great cash builder. The chaser can justify him going low until the cows come home. Wrong decision. #TheChase.". A third fan chimed in: "What?!!! £1,000 Low offer!!!! That's two low offers in a row now! This is completely ridiculous! What's been happening with all of these episodes of useless people taking the low offer! What is this!!! #TheChase.".
A fourth fan quipped: "Am I still watching The Chase? #TheChase," accompanied by a photo of Bradley Walsh posing as the host of the BBC quiz show Pointless. Louise was the final contestant to face The Beast, who impressed the team by earning £7,000 in her cash builder round. Breaking the pattern, Louise chose to play for her winnings in the tense head-to-head round. Fortunately, Louise outsmarted the chaser and advanced to the final round, increasing their jackpot to £9,000. Despite starting with a three-point advantage, the team could only correctly answer 18 questions within two minutes.
