With the upcoming release of her album Alter Ego later this month, K-pop star Lisa (full name Lalisa Manoban) has been dropping multiple releases to keep fans excited – most recently a new comic based on her five alter egos. As part of Lisa’s album, the Thai singer has five established alter egos, each with their own description and appearance. These range from Kiki, who is ‘Y2K Cute’ to the more rock-n-roll Speedi. However, one of the characters, Vixi, who is meant to embody her ‘villain era’, recently sparked ridicule among fans.

The description of Vixi’s character read: “Only baddies allowed” and “oh, you’ve heard of me? good – I’m the one they like to call the 'villain'.” The persona, clearly designed to come across as cool and rebellious, made the opposite impression on social media.

Under a viral X post, users were quick to bash the concept. “It’s so bad, looks like something a 15yo would write on tumblr,” one comment read. Another compared it to bad fanfiction: “It’s giving 2020 wattpad era”. One TikTok commenter criticised the concept of alter egos in general: “I don’t really like alter egos in 2025, I think it’s kind of corny. And I feel like the alter ego should be the opposite of your main self.” Given that Lisa is already known to have a tougher, more “boss” persona, fans felt it would make more sense for her alter ego to show a softer, more delicate side.

As a member of the hit K-pop group BLACKPINK, Lisa was formerly managed by YG Entertainment. However, since splitting from the company as an individual creator in 2023, she has been releasing songs under her own label. Some commenters on X joked that this might not be a good thing: “Now I understand why YG always forbade them from releasing songs.".

However, the overall opinion seems to have changed in anticipation of her newly announced comic. Designed by Japanese artist MinoMiyabi – who has previously worked with musicians like Gorillaz and Yungblud – the comic book aims to give readers a deeper insight into the alter egos that Lisa will be incorporating into the songs of her new album.

“This is such a cool concept actually - releasing a comic book. I'd like to read it once it's out,” one X user said. Others praised the creativity of the alter ego concept: “She literally brought the ALBUM TO LIFE. That was really creative and insane.”.

Outside of the music industry, Lisa made her acting debut in the third season of The White Lotus. She appears as Mook, a young, kind, and cheerful wellness adviser at the resort. Off duty, she develops a flirtatious friendship with Gaitok, a security guard played by Tayme Thapthimthong.
