The Michael Jackson biopic is reportedly facing major reshoots after an alleged legal issue surrounding the inclusion of a sexual abuse accuser. Set to be released in October 2025, Michael is the latest in a long line of biopics about various pop megastars from Robbie Williams to Bob Dylan.
Reportedly, part of the biopic focuses on the 1993 investigation after Jordan Chandler claimed Jackson sexually abused him at age 13, which the singer denied. Jackson and the Chandler family settled the case at the time and allegedly a deal has since been signed that prevents it from being used in any movie by the estate.
According to outlet Puck, this forgotten deal means the already-filmed section has had to be scrapped and must be completely reworked. Journalist Matthew Belloni, who claims he saw a version of the biopic script, says this 1993 case is where the film starts and ends.
In the Puck article, he wrote: ‘The script depicts Jackson as the naïve victim of the money-grubbing Chandlers, whose unfounded claims force Jackson to endure ridicule and persecution until he ultimately settles, his resolve and reputation forever in tatters.’.
These child sexual abuse allegations against Jackson coincided with similar claims from Wade Robson, who spoke out during the Finding Neverland documentary. Jackson ended up cancelling much of his scheduled Dangerous World Tour, citing illness after the accusations, and was dropped from some endorsement deals.
