Michael McIntyre has shared the heartbreaking reason behind an "unmissable" surprise on his Big Show. The popular variety series is set to return for its eighth season tonight (January 18) at 6:50pm on BBC One. Ahead of the show's premiere, Michael shared that World Darts Champion Luke Littler would help make one audience member's dream come true.

"It's so wonderful that the Big Show can give special people a once in a lifetime experience," he said. The host went on to reveal that huge darts fan Gary, whose son recently died of cancer, would be in for a special surprise. "He has dedicated himself to fundraising in his son's name, but his family wanted him to have a special night and that we did," Michael added. "He thought he was going to watch the World Matchplay in Blackpool but ended up playing with Luke Littler in front of thousands of people - and he played amazingly!".

Michael also teased an "inspirational" Unexpected Star of the show. The Unexpected Star segment sees a member of the public unknowingly arrive at the theatre, where they learn that they've been given the opportunity to perform live on stage. One of those deserving people is Peter, who has been singing every day by his wife's bedside as she receives end of life care.

"He's a truly wonderful man and character, and so deserving of the special moment he had performing on our stage," Michael shared. The upcoming series will also feature a "hilarious" new item called Remember Me, which sees a celebrity come face-to-face with a person from any time in their past. They must correctly guess how they know the mystery guest, with Holly Willoughby, Miranda Hart and Alan Carr all taking part.
