Fans tuning into the MOBO Awards were confused as the start time of the event was delayed on its online stream. The event was due to start at 8pm but fans that waited on its live stream waited as the YouTube video said the 'event will start soon' despite many moments having passed. One user asked: "Where is the stream?" and another said: "What in the hell??" One fan commented: "Thought it starts at 8??" and another added: "I'll be in my grave by the time u start.".
At 8:25pm, the event finally began with a hyped performance from Bashy. The MOBO Awards, taking place at Utilita Arena in Newcastle, is hosted by Love Island icon Indiyah Polack and comedian Eddie Kadi. Indiyah made a strong impression when she debuted last year, while comedian Eddie is familiar to millions of BBC viewers from his stint on Strictly. Big name presenters will be handing out well-deserved accolades throughout the night, including for Album of the Year, International Act, Song of the Year and mroe.
Nominees include the likes of Ghetts, Sampha, Darkoo, Cleo Sol, Little Simz, Raye, Jorja Smith, Myles Smith, Pozer, Spider, Native James, Duppy, Scorcher, Nines, Potter Payer, K-Trap, Beyonce, Tems, Tyla and more. Ghetts has also been nominated for his role as Krazy in Supacell. Huges names to take to the stage include London rap duo Krept and Konan who took home awards in 2013 and 2015. Dancehall icon Spice will also be performing on the night.
Iconic musician Vybz Kartel was also awarded the MOBO Impact Award almost a year after the star was released from prison following a murder charge being overturned. He was in prison for 13 years after receiving a life sentence. There were two special awards dished out tonight in Newcastle. Olympic icon Denise Lewis was awarded the Paving The Way award. A statement on the MOBOs Instagram read: "A champion on the track. A trailblazer in sport. A powerhouse on our screens. We are proud to honour the phenomenal @realdeniselewis with the Outstanding Contribution to Sport Award at the 2025 #MOBOAwards.
