An unfortunate shopper was covered in toilet sewage when a pipe burst in a shop and sprayed human waste in the store. The woman was browsing the Food Hall of a Marks and Spencer branch in the Arnison Centre, Durham - when an overhead pipe exploded, leaving her covered in toilet waste and human excrement. The food hall was left open for shopping but aisles nearby were cordoned off as cleaners moved in. It happened in the busy shop just after 10am on Saturday, January 22.

One shopper who witnessed the horror unfold, said: "The waste pipe ejected a large amount of human waste and toilet water directly on top of her, soaking her. I feel so sorry for that poor lady – she got almost perfectly hit I do hope she’s not hurt or sick.". "Marksies left the food hall open for shopping while they started to clean up the mess but the bakery and three or four aisles were closed down," they continued.

"The smell was horrible and I left not long after leaving my shopping. I cannot believe they left the place open for people shopping for food with that amount of human waste all over the stock the floor and that poor woman.". It is understood the woman’s shopping was paid for and her clothes dry cleaned by the store. Food nearby was disposed of, Marks and Spencer confirmed, and a clean up ordered in the aisles. An M&S spokesperson said: "We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused by a small leak in our Arnison store which was immediately contained by our hygiene team.

"A deep clean was conducted to ensure that the store remained hygienic and was safe for all our customers and colleagues. The area was cordoned off whilst this took place.". It comes after pedestrians and cars were soaked in human excrement last September, after a sewage pipe exploded near a motorway in China where road works were being undertaken. The pipe ruptured just yards from the road in Nanning on Tuesday morning at around 11am, showering anyone and everyone nearby in a cascade of orange brown waste.

The horror show was all caught on CCTV, with footage showing a geyser of human waste thundering more than 33ft (10 meters) into the air. Meanwhile dashcam footage shows globules of poo raining down on motorists' windscreens. Unsuspecting pedestrians were also splattered from head to toe with human waste as they strolled along the avenue. One driver reportedly complained: “I’m drenched in poo, my car is splattered yellow. It’s ruined.”.
