A naturopathic doctor has revealed four daily hacks that she believes can help you prevent diseases in the long run - and they're really quite simple. The tips were shared in a new video posted to TikTok by Dr. Janine Bowring, a naturopath who is based in Canada and has over 25 years of clinical research under her belt.

Dr. Bowring often takes to her TikTok to share her advice on longevity and staying healthy, and this time was no different, as she offered viewers four new pointers to keeping your body in tip-top shape. 'Tip number one is to get out in the sun without sunblock on, without your sunglasses,' Dr. Bowring shared.

'It is so important to get natural sunlight exposure on as much of your body as possible to help prevent disease,' she continued. According to Healthline, getting outside and being in the sun is good for you, as it can boost your mood and Vitamin D levels, which is beneficial for bone health, immune function, and even muscle health.

However, per the American Academy of Dermatology Association, it is important to wear sunscreen on the areas of your body that aren't covered by clothing when you go outside, as it can help to prevent sun damage and skin cancers. Next on Dr. Bowring's list was to get exposed to the cold, even if it may be uncomfortable.

'Cold exposure, your cold showers, will help with your mitochondrial health,' she said. 'It helps to give you more energy, and [it's] really important for longevity,' Dr. Bowring added. Per UCLA Health, cold showers can have a lot of benefits, like improving your circulation and reducing inflammation.

Dr. Bowring also advised people to limit their exposure to electromagnetic fields or electromotive force, also known as EMF, which emit from your phone while its in use, per National Cancer Institute. She recommended making sure your phone and Wi-Fi routers stay at a distance from you, especially when you're sleeping.

'You gotta shut these things down so that you're preventing that mitochondrial DNA damage,' she said. A study published in November 2018 in the National Library of Medicine 'revealed the detrimental effects of EMFs from mobile phones, laptops, and other electric devices on sperm quality.'.

Lastly, Dr. Bowring told viewers that they should make sure that they are eating foods that are fresh and growing in the season and area where you live. She also recommended taking cold showers because they 'help with your mitochondrial health' (stock image).

Per Mayo Clinic, eating produce that is in season and 'picked at its peak' can be beneficial to your health, as the food will be packed with more nutrients. 'This is really important because sunlight imprints like a barcode on our food, based on that energy from the sun and we can better metabolize our foods if we're eating in the right season,' Dr. Bowring shared.
