Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight detailed the show's future during a chat with BBC Breakfast's Jon Kay and Sarah Campbell. The beloved series, which first graced screens back in 2013, wrapped up its TV run three years ago. However, fans were thrilled to hear that a feature-length film is in the pipeline, promising more gritty tales of Birmingham's Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy). On Tuesday morning, BBC's Sarah Campbell couldn't resist probing about the movie, asking: "What's the latest on the film, it's been filmed, is that right? So we're just waiting for a broadcast date. Some of us are waiting. Quite a lot of us are waiting!".

With a chuckle, Steven confirmed that filming concluded on December 13 last year and they're now piecing the project together. He enthused: "It's fantastic, I think we've got the best British actors all in one place.". He assured viewers that the film will be nothing short of 'incredible' and a perfect end to this chapter of the Peaky saga. Steven commented: "It's a very fitting way to end this part of the Peaky story.".

Jon Kay didn't miss a beat, zeroing in on Steven's choice of words, hinting at life beyond the film's finale. Playing coy, the creator added: "It's not over, let's just put it that way.". This revelation left the BBC presenters buzzing with speculation about another potential film or even a new series on the horizon, reports the Express. However, Steven chose to keep his cards close to his chest, acknowledging only that an official announcement wasn't on the cards just yet. Instead, he playfully teased: "I'm just saying that the world of Peaky will continue.".

Details surrounding the upcoming Peaky Blinders film might be scarce, but excitement has been simmering since Netflix dropped a sneak peek - a snapshot of Cillian Murphy revisiting his iconic role alongside actor Barry Keoghan. Last year, Steven couldn't contain his enthusiasm for the project, stating: "I'm thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders story, set during World War II. The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.".

Fans have plenty to look forward to as Cillian Murphy will once again step into his role, alongside other stars such as Stephen Graham, Rebecca Ferguson, Sophie Rundle, and Ian Peck. The anticipation began in June last year when Netflix released a snippet of the screenplay, with Cillian cryptically revealing, 'Tommy Shelby wasn't finished with me.'. The update had fans abuzz, with one person commenting: "Cillian will make this movie version as great as the previous series... can't wait.".

Another fan added: "I'm so excited...thank you all for creating this. You guys are the greatest. Cillian Murphy is phenomenal and so is the whole cast.". However, one pressing question remained on everyone's minds: would Tom Hardy return as Alfie Solomons?. BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am.. Obsessed with Netflix?
