Music fans have been left thrilled as Stereophonics dropped new music this week. The band, from Cwmaman, has just released their latest single, "There's Always Gonna Be Something", on social media, sparking a wave of anticipation for their upcoming album release in April. With several successful albums already to their name, Stereophonics have certainly left their mark on the music scene. But, even the most dedicated fans who belt out every word to hits like "A Thousand Trees" or "Dakota" might not have pondered the origins of the band's unique name.

A recent TikTok video shared by knowledgefeed delved into its meaning, and revealed it to be quite ingenious. The video explained: "Monophonic and stereophonic sound is the number of channels used to record and playback audio.". For those curious about the deeper story behind the name, the band has previously shared details too. Radio X reported that the name was born from a simple yet defining moment.

In their early days, Stuart Cable and Kelly Jones were recording demos under the name "Zephyr". It wasn't until Richard Jones joined them that they began performing as "Tragic Love Company", which lasted until a rather serendipitous event led to their current name. The late founding member Stuart Cable was suddenly inspired by the name on a Falcon Stereophonic radiogram. He shared his discovery with Kelly and, before long, they altered the band's name to The Stereophonics.

Eventually, they streamlined it further, dropping "the" to become simply known as Stereophonics. It's often the smallest things that spark inspiration. Fans have been buzzing with excitement since it was announced new music from the Stereophonics is on the way. Comments have been flooding their Instagram page, with one fan exclaiming: "Something like a Rolling Stone song. Love it.". Another eagerly wrote: "Class - can't wait to see you guys in Cardiff." A third chimed in with: "That guitar smells like rock and roll spirit." Meanwhile, someone else added: "Great tune fellas!".
