Fans of Sarah J. Maas think they have worked out when the next book in the A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) series will be released. As fans of the bestselling BookTok favourite will know, the first book in the series, which revolves around Feyre Archeron’s journey into the magical world of the Fae, was published back in 2015, with subsequent books published each year up until 2018. A Court of Silver Flames, which instead focused on Feyre’s sister Nesta Archeron, was later released in February 2021, and romantasy readers have been eagerly awaiting news of the sixth instalment ever since. Author Sarah J. Maas, who also penned the Crescent City and Throne of Glass series, has previously hinted at what to expect in the next book, but there is no release date currently attached to the project.
Nevertheless, one reader thinks they’ve worked out exactly when the next instalment will be hitting shelves - and other fans say it makes “perfect sense”. Posting to TikTok, @hannalybooks said: “The next ACOTAR is coming out in March of 26 and I’ll tell you why I know why. “I am 99% certain of this because February 25 2023, Throne of Glass got brand new covers. They’re so pretty and they came in colour and they also came in black and white and we, being the suckers we are, went ‘oh pretty’, so we went to the store and we spent a truckload of money buying new paperbacks.
“Then, 11 months later, on January 25 2024, House of Flame and Shadow [the third Crescent City book] was released to us in hardback.”. The video’s creator then went on to say: “You know what’s even more expensive to print? Exclusive editions in hardback. So they needed a cash grab so that they could have the money to make all of those expensive hardbacks.”. Continuing to explain her theory, she brought viewers back to the present, pointing out that new ‘Night Court editions’ of the existing ACOTAR books have just been announced. The special edition books feature all black covers and will be released this April.
The BookTok creator then rounded off her theory by suggesting that this means a new book will be released in hardback 11 months on, in March 2026. Her theory seems to have convinced other readers, with one saying: “Honestly, this makes perfect sense!” Another said: “I’m really salty that this makes sense and you’re probably right.”. A third commenter wrote: “Bestie I think you’re on to something…” Meanwhile, another ACOTAR fan said: “Yes!! I’ve been saying this! Everyone complaining about the black acotar set and I’m like I’m excited bc I know it’s a cue for the next book announcement to come soon!!!”.
