Scarlett Vickers posted a final TikTok featuring a hauntingly named song with the lyrics "choose your last words" just hours before she was murdered by her dad. The tragic teen, who was just 14 when she was stabbed to death by her father Simon at their home in Darlington last year, posted a short video to the social media platform featuring the Lana Del Rey song 'Born To Die'. Jurors convicted the 50-year-old of murder today following a trial at Teesside Crown Court.
Prosecutors said Scarlett died after she suffered a fatal wound to the heart in her family's kitchen on July 5, 2024, while playing around at their home in Geneva Road. Her, father, who has denied murder and manslaughter charges, claimed he had accidentally thrown a knife at his daughter, whom the court heard was "supported at every turn" by her parents and "just finding her independence" before she died.
Her short video posted to TikTok shows the teen happily posing and tousling her hair while apologising for the state of her bedroom. The 15-second-long video shows Scarlett wearing a black top and pair of shorts while standing in front of the mirror in her room, asking people to "ignore the mess" as she walks back and forth. The lyrics "choose your last words" can be heard playing over the black-and-white clip before it ends.
The clip was posted to the platform on July 4 - the day before she would die at her dad's hands. Lawyers and jurors hearing the case at Teesside Crown Court were told that, on July 5, she and her family - who were affectionately known as the "three S's", Scarlett's mum Sarah Hall said - were all "mucking about" and throwing grapes at each other in the kitchen.
