Hi-de-Hi! star Su Pollard has shared her true thoughts on the saga surrounding Gregg Wallace and Wynne Evans. Separately, both BBC stars have faced claims about their behaviour, which has resulted in them taking a step back in their careers. Gregg, 60, will no longer co-host MasterChef with John Torode after he was accused of making sexually inappropriate comments towards a range of women, dating back nearly two decades.
He has denied all claims against him and his legal team has also said: "It is entirely false that he engages in behaviour of a sexually harassing nature.". As for Wynne, 53, he was taken off the Strictly Come Dancing tour after he was filmed allegedly making a lewd sexual remark to presenter Janette Manrara. Sharing her thoughts on Gregg, Su said she didn't have a problem with him when she was a contestant on the show in 2021.
"Absolutely not," she told The i newspaper. "Oh, I felt sorry for... No, I don't want to go there too much. Let's just say, the era where he felt it would be fine to do it has passed.". According to the publication, the 75-year-old, whose humour is "often based on double entendres, innuendo and word play", also expressed sympathy for Wynne. While she's unclear about the nature of the BBC star's offensive remarks, she seemingly took a swipe at the corporation. "Don't tell me what I should be offended by," she added. "Where did this insidiousness come in, this dreadful cancel culture?".
Sue went on to say she doesn't believe social media helps as "things get taken out of context". Additionally, the actress believes that while the #MeToo movement was necessary, she fears other people could be "jumping on a bandwagon" when "we all need each other in this industry". Wynne has taken a step back from his work commitments after his comment sparked uproar. In a statement after the footage was released, he said: "My language was inappropriate and unacceptable for which I sincerely apologise.".
