We all love a good deal — and this current offer from Tesco promises to get shoppers more out of their supermarket shop. If you’re a Tesco Clubcard holder, you may be able to earn up to £50 in bonus points over the next few weeks. How? The supermarket has brought back Clubcard Challenges, with special bargains running from now until Sunday March 9. The promotion, which was first launched in August last year, gave customers spending challenges they could complete to win points.

Each challenge was personalised, based on a shopper’s previous spending habits, and could be anything from splurging £20 on Tesco’s summer BBQ range or nabbing plant-based ready meals for a tenner. This time around, customers will be given 20 challenges to choose from, although they’ll only be able to win up to 10 of them. All challenges will be shown via email or on the Tesco app — but don’t worry, if you change your mind, you can deselect one and choose another.
The maximum amount of Clubcard points up for grabs that count towards your Tesco shop is 5,000 (equivalent to £50). This is what you could earn from completing all 10 challenges. Alternatively, if you complete the challenges but don’t necessarily need the points for shopping, you could redeem up to £100 with one of Tesco’s ‘Reward Partners’ such as Cineworld, Pizza Express and Thorpe Park.
During a regular shop, £1 gets you one Clubcard point, with 100 of these adding up £1 in Tesco vouchers. To find out if you can take part in the Clubcard Challenges, keep an eye on your inbox and look for an email invitation from Tesco. You can also keep checking the Tesco Grocery and Clubcard apps, as you will receive a notification if you’re eligible to partake in the promotion. If you do get picked for the scheme, perhaps just think carefully about which challenges you try out. The team at MoneySavingExpert has warned shoppers not to use the promotion as an excuse to ‘overspend’.
They said: ‘Only buy what you were planning to anyway and see the challenges as an added boost if you do hit the targets.’. They urged people to keep four important ‘money mantras’ in mind when shopping, which are: ‘Do you need it? Can you afford it? Will you use it? And is it worth it?’. All very good questions!. However, if you’re on the lookout for more ways to save money, there could be a new Clubcard perk on the horizon.
The supermarket is testing Your Clubcard Prices, a new loyalty scheme feature which will give customers personalised discounts based on their shopping habits. Selected customers will be offered personalised deals every Wednesday on their mostbought items. What’s more, the same deal can then be used multiple times in a seven-day period. Available through the Tesco app, the discounts will be automatically linked to shoppers’ Clubcards, making it easy to access the offers with a simple scan or a tap at the till as usual.
It won’t affect regular Clubcard deals either. Not every Tesco customer will get to be part of the trial though. The offers are reserved for larger Tesco stores, and cannot be redeemed in Express stores or online. Life admin apps to save the day? Brits rely on seven pocket pals for budget control. Currently, it’s also unclear how many customers will take part in the supermarket’s trial or how long it will last for.
