Anne Hegerty, who rose to fame as The Governess on The Chase, has opened up about some very exciting career news away from the show. While known for her incredible brain on the ITV show, Anne, 66, is also a talented performer, and revealed that her acting career could soon be taking a major step forward. Asked about her stage work at the TV Choice Awards, Anne shared that she’s had some massive news about a recent film project. “I’d love to do more acting!” she enthused, adding: “Last year I was part of a little short comedy film called Exorcising Barry. It had its premiere in September, and then it’s now gone out to film festivals to see what they make of it. It’s made by a couple of people who have won awards at film festivals before, so we’re quite hopeful.”.
The star then shared that she might soon be taking her film skills to the next level. “I’m not sure how much I can say,” she teased, “but they have in mind perhaps making a feature film, maybe this summer. I do actually have the script, I can’t tell you anything more.”. When asked whether she had any training or had always planned for acting to be her goal, she admitted: “Not really. I always loved acting when I was a kid, and then I just kind of assumed, you know, nobody actually makes a career out of acting - I’m here surrounded by people who make a career out of acting! But I always wanted to do panto, and I finally got asked in 2014 and then I’ve done it every year since.”.
Considering the draw of her name after so many successive shows, Anne has now lost any sense of imposter syndrome she may have had as a performer: “It’s nice when I turn up and we start rehearsals and everyone’s like, ‘Oh, you actually know what you’re doing!’ and I’m like, ‘Well apart from the fact that I can’t dance, I know what I’m doing!’” she joked. Anne happily said of her acting line of work: “It’s a chance to act and sing and be funny and do stuff that isn’t The Chase, and doesn’t depend on The Chase.”.
Last year, Anne mentioned acting while speaking to the Mirror about her adult diagnosis with autism, and described learning to deal with the challenges of juggling her busy life. "It got a great deal easier once I got the job on The Chase and actually got some money. There are very few problems that can't be solved with money,” she said. However, she admitted: "I mean, it's still a challenge to get yourself up and actually showered and do things. I've gotten very behind with the mail this year. It's piling up and I've really got to sit down and tackle it. Things like that.
