A SHOCKED dog owner told how a crazed XL Bully savaged her pet pooch to death - before breaking her mum’s arm. Emma Hoey, from Law near Carluke, said she has been left heart-broken after her eight-year-old Pomeranian Buddy was mauled to death in her back garden on Saturday afternoon. The brutal attack happened while Emma’s mum Donna was babysitting her six-year-old son and had let the pet out for the toilet.

An XL bully - owned by a neighbour - allegedly jumped over a fence into the garden and fatally latched onto Buddy’s neck. It’s believed to have then turned on Donna, 57, who was hospitalised with serious injuries including a broken arm and deep puncture wounds. Mum-of-two Emma, 27, told of the horror of watching her beloved Buddy die on the vet’s table as medics tried to save him. She said: “My dog was in his own garden and on a lead doing the toilet.

“An XL bully jumped over the fence and grabbed my dog by the neck. “It ripped out his muscles, his nerves… there was nothing that could be done. “The dog only let go of Buddy when it latched onto my mum’s arm. “She’s in surgery now because her arm is broken.”. The care worker had left her dog with her mum but her daughter, 10, who usually looks after Buddy had been at a sleepover. She continued: “I’m just lucky she wasn’t there.

“She is absolutely heartbroken at the loss of Buddy, how do you tell children that their dog was killed?. "I can’t put into words how upset she is. “I’m terrified to leave my children there now.”. Police Scotland tonight confirmed they charged a 22-year-old woman under the Dangerous Dogs Act. "She will appear at Lanark Sheriff Court at a later date. Tough new curbs were brought into place after a string of attacks by the breed.

From February, all XL Bullies had to be muzzled and it was illegal to sell, breed or abandon them in Scotland. It was mandated last August that owning one of these powerful canines without an exemption certificate would be against the law. And any XL Bullies found without the necessary paperwork are now subject to being destroyed. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.35pm on Saturday, 8 February, 2025, we were called to a report of a woman and her dog injured by another dog in a garden on Station Road, Law.
