Yellowjackets fans are convinced they already know who Hilary Swank will be playing following this week’s two-part season three premiere. Showtime’s cult favourite horror drama returned on Valentine’s Day following the devastating conclusion to season two, which said goodbye to adult Natalie Scatorccio (played by Juliette Lewis). In the latest episodes, Shauna Shipman (Melanie Lynskey), Taissa Turner (Tawny Cypress) and Misty Quigley (Christina Ricci) are struggling after their confrontation with Lottie Matthews (Simone Kessell) which led to the shocking death of their beloved friend.
Back in the wilderness, their younger selves battled through the winter after their cabin mysteriously burned down, but there’s conflict brewing amongst the survivors. This season will also introduce two big names to the cast - Swank and Joel McHale - but their roles have not yet been disclosed to viewers. However, following the stunning conclusion to episode two, Dislocation, which saw young Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) secretly kiss Melissa (Jenna Burgess) after a fiery exchange, fans are convinced they’ve figured out who Swank will be playing.
Back in the present day, Shauna is shaken when she experiences a blackout in the bathroom during her husband Jeff’s (Warren Kole) dinner with two potential clients and is left a phone with a missed call from an anonymous number. All signs seem to be pointing to Melissa surviving the Yellowjackets’ ordeal in the wild and Swank entering the picture as her adult self who wants to reconnect with Shauna for unknown reasons.
Fans took to social media in eager anticipation of the next episodes, which they’re convinced will introduce Swank as an older Melissa. One viewer predicted on Reddit: “So I think the end of the episode basically spelled out that Melissa is survivor #8, and will be played by Hilary Swank. The ex gf dynamic is gonna make things a lot more interesting though…”. “Hillary Swank is definitely Melissa. In the trailer she has blue contacts in,” someone else said.
And a third commented: “I’m calling it now, Hilary Swank is playing adult Melissa as she was the 8th survivor.”. Over on X (formerly Twitter), one fan wrote: “So now I guess we can guess who Hillary Swank is playing after that... very interesting end to ep2. “#YellowJackets (me trying to avoid spoiling the few ppl on my TL who watch this show even tho I want to retweet the scene so damn bad lmao).”.
While another fan predicted an even more scandalous outcome: “So what I’m hearing is Melissa is actually surviving and is played by Hilary Swank and Shauna is gonna cheat on Jeff again with her.”. To which someone else replied: “I KNEWWWWWW Hilary Swank was Melissa too. I’ve been saying.”. Is this fan theory correct, or could Yellowjackets throw another wild curveball and introduce Swank as a completely different character?.
