Etiquette expert William Hanson has suggested that we’re all pulling our Christmas crackers the wrong way as he explains when it should be done and how. Writing in the Daily Telegraph ahead of Christmas Day, William, 35, gave several pieces of festive etiquette guidance. Among these was what to do with the iconic Christmas cracker.
He explained that it should never be pulled at the end of meal because if it is then the accompanying hat can only be adorned on one’s head for “30 seconds”. William explained when crackers should be pulled: “At the start of the lunch, because then you can eat the meal with the paper hat on. If you're doing it at the end, then you can only wear the hat for about 30 seconds until you stand up and it falls off.
“You must do it quickly, though, because you've been served hot food. I suggest reading the joke out during the meal when everyone gets going. You don't want to wait for all the guests to tell their joke while the turkey is getting cold.”. This wasn’t the only piece of Christmas guidance William gave, explaining that when it came to sharing memories on social media that photos of recently received gifts were a no-no.
To demonstrate this, he used two examples, one of what was acceptable and another of what wasn’t. He wrote: “I probably wouldn't. However, let's say you gave me a present and you weren't with me on Christmas Day, I could take a photograph and say: ‘Love the socks.
