Amazon Prime Video subscribers have been urged to binge a ‘compelling’ thriller series based on a movie that starred a 16-year-old Saoirse Ronan. Hanna, which ran between 2019 and 2021 for three seasons, follows the story of a young girl who was raised in the wilderness and is on the run from the CIA. Starring Esme Creed-Miles as the titular character, Hanna sticks close to the plot of the original 2011 film for the majority of its first season.

However, the show’s second and third seasons took the story beyond the point where the film reached, allowing it to form its own identity. Viewers watching the series on Amazon Prime Video seemingly can’t get enough, encouraging other people with subscriptions to join in as soon as they can. On Reddit, CubeGod said: ‘I’ve had this series on my watch list for a long time, I wish I had started it sooner (two episodes in, please no spoilers). It’s a very well written thriller, that keeps you constantly engaged.

‘Yet it has warmth and heart to it as well. It also reunites Joel Kinneman and Mireille Enos, from The Killing. Brilliant action sequences, some well written dark humor.’. They concluded their opening post by saying, ‘You’re never quite sure where it’s going to take you next. Highly recommended!’. In the comments, users celebrated the series received acclaim from TV critics, landing an impressive 93% Rotten Tomatoes score for its second season in 2020.

PromsClip said: ‘I’ve had it on my watch list too for years now, but just never got round to it. Decided to finally give it a go after randomly seeing this post earlier today and it feels like the stars aligned lol. ‘A few episodes in and it’s great. I’ve always liked the Punisher-esque one man army roles and I’m a fan of Kinnaman because of Altered Carbon, For All Mankind, and The Killing.’.

In another post which was still complimentary but more critical overall, Ricky111 praised the series for having ‘good acting and a good, compelling story’. The series was filmed across several countries in eastern Europe in 2018 – this was due to the beginning of the story taking place in a deep forest in Poland. Hungary and Slovakia were used as locations in some episodes of the first season, while towns and cities in Spain and the United Kingdom were used from season two onwards.

In the third season, the Czech Republic capital of Prague was prominently featured, with the city’s Karlin district being featured in key scenes of the show’s final stretch. Speaking to UPI about filming the finale, Hanna actor Esme said the show’s ending came at a tough time in her life, but that she managed to turn that negative energy into a big performance. ‘I’d just broken up with my boyfriend and I was a mess. And poor Mireille, I like, had a panic attack and started shouting at people. It was gnarly.

‘[But] I’d say the ending was beautiful. I’d say it was nice to end with a sense of agency for Hanna.’. What I Own: I quit London at 48 and bought my first home in Sussex for £325,000.
