Two-time heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua is targeting a blockbuster all-British showdown with Tyson Fury this year. The British boxing star has broken his silence for the first time since rumours circulated that he was set to fight the 'Gypsy King' in 2025. The two rivals have been on a collision course for many years now and it seems as if a fight finally looks set to happen - following Fury's defeat to Oleksandr Usyk last month.
In what could be billed as 'The Battle of Britain,' the potential fight remains the biggest clash in British boxing history, determining who will be crowned the best heavyweight from these shores this century. With the first showdown being tipped to take place in April or May, it's most likely that the pair will go head-to-head over two legs in Saudi Arabia and London.
During a recent trip to Nigeria - where his parents were born - regarding a fight with Fury, Joshua told told Sportsboom: “I've been involved in a whole lot of fights, but this has to happen in 2025. Of course, it has to happen, and hopefully, it does happen.”.
The 35-year-old also got the chance to meet Nigerian President Bola Tinubu - where he further doubled down on his comments regarding a fight with Fury. "2025, I am targeting Tyson Fury," he said. 'AJ' suffered the fourth defeat of his professional career last time out against Daniel Dubois in September at Wembley Stadium.
The Brit was knocked down four times in total before suffering a brutal knockout defeat in the fifth round. Despite the defeat in London, Joshua insists he's not ready to hang up the gloves just yet and believes he can become a world champion for the third time in his professional career.
