An all-British “mega-fight” between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua could take place next year after the Gypsy King’s loss to Oleksandr Usyk. Promoters say the heavyweight clash, in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley Stadium, would be “the biggest fight in the history of British boxing ”. Fury’s defeat to Ukrainian Usyk in Saudi Arabia has paved the way for a £250m bout against Fury, which would be the richest-ever in the sport. Neither Briton are contracted to fight other opponents ahead of the potential clash, which could take place next year.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn said: “There’s only one fight for Tyson Fury and that’s Anthony Joshua. It’s the biggest fight probably in the history of British boxing. Everyone will always want to see it. For me, AJ against Fury is the one, it’s the one at Wembley. It will be a huge global event.”.

Hearn wants to a sign a two-venue deal which would see Fury and Joshua also agreeing to fight in Riyadh. The British pair, who have now both lost twice to Usyk, originally penned a deal for a bout in Saudi Arabia in August 2021. But a judge ruled American boxer Deontay Wilder was entitled to exercise his option to fight the Gypsy King instead.

Fury, 36, had been expected to have a third ‘decider’ fight against Usyk next year if he won in Riyadh last night. But he agonisingly lost on points to the Ukrainian for the second time in seven months, missing out on three world title belts. Fury stormed out of the ring after reading the judges’ scorecards and later declared he had won by three rounds. He accused the judges of giving Usyk a “ Christmas gift” and refused to discuss his future after losing to Usyk.
