Arsenal issue formal appeal to get controversial 'worst decision' overturned

Arsenal have formally appealed against Myles Lewis-Skelly’s red card. They had until 1pm on Tuesday and have submitted their case which would also be aimed at overturning a three game ban. The hearing will almost certainly go to a three man independent panel after Lewis-Skelly was sent off at Wolves on Saturday.. They will provide video evidence to support the case after Michael Oliver’s decision was widely condemned by pundits.
Manchester United won an appeal to overturn a red card against Bruno Fernandes in their defeat to Tottenham earlier in the season when the match official’s sending-off was upheld by the VAR. Lewis-Skelly saw red after a trip on Wolves defender Matt Doherty which led to Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer calling it “one of the worst decisions” he had seen in a long time.
Arsenal's appeal will be heard by a three-man independent panel which includes former players. The FA rules on appeals state:. The Regulatory Commission has the discretion to increase the punishment by up to twice the standard amount if it considers that the dismissed claim ‘had no prospect of success’ and/or ‘amounts to an abuse of the process'.
