Arsenal given clear instructions to appeal Myles Lewis-Skelly ban with strict deadline

Arsenal will be expected to provide a dossier of video evidence to overturn Myles Lewis-Skelly’s red card. Football Association rules state that a club must serve notice of an “intention” to appeal a decision by 1pm on the next working day after the game. Arsenal then have until 1pm Tuesday to submit full evidence and reasons to overturn Lewis-Skelly’s sending-off and also a three match ban which would rule him out of big games, including Sunday’s clash with Manchester City.
Manchester United won an appeal to overturn a red card against Bruno Fernandes in their defeat to Tottenham earlier in the season when the match official’s sending-off was upheld by the VAR. The club have yet to officially announce an intention to appeal but the reaction of Mikel Arteta shows that Arsenal believe they have strong grounds.
Referee Michael Oliver has subsequently endured sickening abuse so clearly Arsenal would be expected to be respectful of the situation. Lewis-Skelly saw red after a trip on Wolves defender Matt Doherty which led to Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer calling it “one of the worst decisions” he had seen in a long time.
Arsenal’s appeal would be heard by a three-man independent panel which includes former players. The FA rules on appeals state:.
