Call the Midwife fans all had a similar reaction after tuning into the first episode of the new series. The beloved BBC show, which made its return to BBC One on Sunday for its fourteenth run, saw the team offering support to teen mum-to-be Paula Cunningham, portrayed by Kitty Anderson, whose old-school parents Philip and Grace Cunningham are convinced their daughter's expecting through divine intervention.

As the young girl confided in Joyce Highland about her pregnancy, viewers flooded social media with heartfelt responses. On X, which used to be known as Twitter, one touched viewer wrote: "Very, very difficult to watch. Brave Paula. #CallTheMidwife." Someone else posted: "I've missed shedding tears on a Sunday.".

Meanwhile, another shared: "First episode of the new season and I'm already in tears! " This season kick-off comes amidst Helen George putting rest to the whispers about her leaving, confirming she's definitely back on board for series 14. With Nurse Trixie Aston's fate left hanging in the previous finale as she grappled with relocating to New York to be with Matthew, Helen's latest words in an interview promise a substantial comeback for her character. Speaking to Virginradio.co.uk, Helen teased: "It's bigger than ever and I guess it's quite a return for Trixie because she's coming back sans-husband, so that's an interesting twist.", reports Wales Online.

The beloved Helen George expressed her enthusiasm for returning to the hit series, stating: "It's really nice being back with the girls and being back with the ladies at Nonnatus House. Trixie has been brought back into the fold, which is really fun and where she kind of sits best, I think.".
