WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Call the Midwife. Call the Midwife’s Christmas special will consist of not one but two episodes for the first time in the show’s history. Call the Midwife will be returning next year for season 14 but before its return, there is Christmas at Nonnatus House to get excited about for BBC fans.

This year though, there will be two Christmas episodes to look forward to rather than the one 90-minute special, airing on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. And as the countdown begins until Call the Midwife is back on our screens, here’s everyone who will be returning for the festive episodes.

Season 13 ended on a cliffhanger as Trixie Aylward said she would be moving to New York to be with her husband but will she actually leave Poplar for good?. In the Christmas special, Trixie, played by actress Helen George, will be making a “fleeting visit” to Nonnatus House.

Away from the BBC show, George competed in the 2015 series of Strictly Come Dancing and came in sixth place with Aljaz Skorjanec. Former nun-turned-nurse Shelagh Turner, portrayed by actress Laura Main, will be busy in the second of the two Christmas episodes as she “helps a family battle against appalling poverty”.

Fred Buckle has featured in the Call the Midwife trailer dressed up as Santa Claus as he visits poorly children in hospital. Before joining the 1960s-set show, actor Cliff Parisi was best known for portraying Minty in the iconic BBC soap opera EastEnders.
