A BBC comedy series hailed as ‘disturbing yet brilliant’ is returning to screens tonight after a two-year wait. First airing in 2022, Am I Being Unreasonable? stars Daisy May Cooper as Nic, a mum stuck in a depressing marriage who is grieving a loss she must keep secret from her loved ones. However, when she makes a new friend in fellow school mum Jen (Selin Hizli), Nic finds a kindred spirit, however, it is revealed she is also hiding a secret of her own.

Viewers called the show ‘shocking’, ‘refreshingly original’ and said the ending ‘made my jaw drop’ when Nic’s secret was revealed. In its review of season 1, Time also wrote: ‘Sure to hit the spot for fans of series like Dead to Me and Fleabag, in which extremely relatable women wrestle with extremely dark secrets.’. ‘While Am I Being Unreasonable? might not fit everyone’s taste, it’s worth checking out — particularly if you’re in the mood for a story that takes you on an unexpected, and very binge-worthy, journey,’ the New York Post wrote.

Tonight, the series will return for its second season, which will begin where the last left off as Nic is suffering a panic attack.

It’s been teased of the upcoming six episodes: ‘Has Nic got away with murder? Quite possibly. Has she raised her son Ollie to follow in her murky footsteps?’. ‘Kicked out of the family home for brotherly love – loving the wrong brother – Nic is reduced to sharing a caravan with her not so trustworthy best friend Jen. ‘Nic’s Husband Dan has taken up roller-blading to channel his mid-life crisis. Shunned at the school gates and cast as the witch at the school re-enactment, Nic is experiencing hallucinations. Or is someone playing tricks on her?.’.

The second season will also feature guest stars including Chelsea Peretti (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Tom Davis (Wonka, King Gary), Denise Black (Queer as Folk), Jamali Maddix (Never Mind the Buzzcocks), British rapper and poet Kojey Radical and Daisy’s brother and This Country co-star Charlie Cooper, which will also mark their first on-screen reunion since their mockumentary sitcom ended in 2020. Also returning is Lenny Rush as Nic’s son Ollie, who won a Bafta for best male comedy performance following the first season, as well as two Royal Television Society Awards.
